Cordyceps may be worth considering for endurance training, but it is not a fast-acting pre-workout like caffeine. Human studies have tested it daily for at least one week, usually at much larger amounts than many gummies provide, and the results on performance are mixed.

Can cordyceps help before a workout?
It may help some endurance-related measures after consistent use, but it is not proven to create an immediate lift in energy, strength, or motivation before one gym session. The most useful way to think about cordyceps is as a supplement being studied for training adaptation, not as a replacement for food, fluids, sleep, or a regular training plan.
A 2026 review of five human Cordyceps militaris studies included 321 people ages 16 to 35. The studies used daily amounts from 1 to 12 grams for one to 16 weeks. Some reported improvements in selected endurance or recovery measures, while others did not. The review also found important study-quality problems and major differences in the mushroom preparations, athletes, and workout tests. Human exercise review
For a closer look at oxygen use, endurance, and the limits of those findings, see athletic performance research.
How long does cordyceps take to kick in?
There is no established “kick in” time for cordyceps. The human exercise studies summarized above ran for at least one week, and most lasted several weeks. That means there is no good human basis for expecting a same-day effect from taking it 30 minutes before training.
If you choose a cordyceps supplement, follow its label rather than treating a pre-workout time window as proven. A product can contain a different species, mushroom part, extract method, or amount than the products used in research. Those differences matter.
Does cordyceps give you energy or keep you awake?
Cordyceps is often sold for energy, but it is not established as a stimulant. It does not automatically work like coffee or a typical caffeinated pre-workout, and the available human exercise research does not establish a reliable immediate energy effect.
Whether it affects sleep can depend on the full product. A blend may include caffeine or other active ingredients, so read the whole Supplement Facts panel instead of judging the product by the word “cordyceps.”
Can it build muscle or raise testosterone?
Do not count on cordyceps for muscle growth. The 2026 human review found that the exercise studies did not examine lean body mass or muscle mass, so they cannot answer whether cordyceps builds muscle.
It is also not a reliable testosterone booster. One seven-week study in young swimmers reported higher testosterone-related findings, but a 16-week study in young male runners found no meaningful difference in testosterone. Those conflicting findings, along with the study limitations, do not support a promise that cordyceps raises testosterone in men or women.
Cordyceps is not like Viagra. It is a fungus used in foods and supplements; it is not a proven treatment for erectile dysfunction or a substitute for prescribed care.
What forms of cordyceps are used?
Labels may name Cordyceps militaris, Ophiocordyceps sinensis, fruiting body, mycelium, powder, or extract. These are not interchangeable. Different parts of the fungus can contain different compounds, and the amount of those compounds can vary by growing and processing method. Cordyceps safety overview
That is why a study of a gram-level powder or multi-mushroom blend cannot tell you what a lower-dose gummy will do. Our Cordyceps safety guide explains the practical label details to compare.
What does a cordyceps gummy provide?
Pilly Labs sells Cordyceps Energy Gummies. The seller lists one gummy as a serving with 200 mg of cordyceps extract, plus 25 mg each of ginkgo leaf extract, GABA, L-glutamine, and DMAE. The label also lists 30 servings per container and strawberry-flavored gummy ingredients, including sugar and tapioca syrup.
| Item | What the label lists | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Cordyceps extract | 200 mg per gummy | This is below the 1–12 g daily range used in the human exercise studies summarized above. |
| Other actives | Ginkgo, GABA, L-glutamine, DMAE: 25 mg each | The effect and safety question is about the whole combination, not cordyceps alone. |
| Format | 30 gummies; one serving listed as one gummy | A convenient format for a daily routine. |
Pilly Labs lists the regular price as $47.99 for one bottle. Prices shown October 5, 2026; check checkout for today’s price. The seller says U.S. shipping is $6.90 under $99 and free at $99 or more, before applicable tax.
Can you take cordyceps every day?
Daily use was the pattern in the exercise studies, but their one-to-16-week duration does not answer the long-term safety question for every person or formula. The exact product, your medical history, and your other supplements matter.
Commonly reported side effects include constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and upset stomach. Serious allergic reactions can occur, especially for people with mushroom or mold allergies. WebMD’s Cordyceps guide lists these concerns and explains why the product label matters.
What should you not mix with cordyceps?
Do not assume that “natural” means interaction-free. Cordyceps may interact with blood thinners, antiplatelet medicines, diabetes medicines, medicines that suppress the immune system, and chemotherapy. Interaction research is incomplete, so a clinician or pharmacist can put the full medication list and the exact product label in context.
| Situation | Why it matters | Practical takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Blood thinner or antiplatelet medicine | Possible interaction concern | Use requires medication-specific review. |
| Diabetes medicine | Blood-sugar effects may matter | Do not treat a supplement as separate from diabetes care. |
| Immune-suppressing medicine or transplant history | Immune effects are a concern | A clinician should assess the combination. |
| Pregnancy or breastfeeding | Safety is not established | Use needs individualized professional advice. |
| Mushroom or mold allergy | Allergic reaction risk | Avoid self-experimenting with a new mushroom product. |

Does cordyceps boost immunity quickly?
No food, drink, or mushroom supplement can reliably “boost” your immune system in three days. Your immune system needs balance, not a quick surge. The CDC’s immunity guidance emphasizes eating well, regular activity, healthy weight, enough sleep, not smoking, and avoiding excess alcohol. Vaccines build protection against specific diseases.
A nutritious pattern matters more than a single “immune booster.” The NIH immune function fact sheet notes that adequate vitamins and minerals support normal immune function, while routine supplements generally do little to prevent or treat specific infections when there is no deficiency.
There are no reliable five-item checklists for a “weak” or “strong” immune system. Frequent or unusual infections can have many causes, and a clinician can assess symptoms in the context of your health history rather than relying on a supplement quiz. Water, tea, smoothies, and other drinks can be part of normal hydration and nutrition, but none is a fast immunity fix.
How does cordyceps compare with other mushroom choices?
Cordyceps is usually researched in the exercise-and-endurance conversation. Reishi is more often discussed around stress and relaxation, while lion’s mane is commonly marketed for cognition; none should be treated as a guaranteed answer to those goals. Pilly Labs sells Vitality Mushroom Coffee and cordyceps energy gummies, with ingredient amounts listed on its labels. Compare the label, form, dose, and safety fit instead of choosing by a broad promise.

Before you order
- Check whether the label names the species, mushroom part, extract type, and amount per serving.
- Compare that amount with the research you care about. A milligram amount in a gummy is not the same as a gram-level daily study dose.
- Review every active ingredient, especially in a blend that includes ginkgo, caffeine, or other stimulants.
- Pilly Labs says opened or unopened items can be reviewed under its 30-day satisfaction policy when you contact support within 30 days of delivery. Approved refunds return to the original payment method; the policy limits refunds to one per product per customer.
- The seller lists email and phone support on its contact page, and says it has a mailing address there.
