The grade belongs to one outcome
We do not assign one grade to an entire mushroom. A grade applies to one outcome for a defined species, material, preparation, population, dose, and time period. Evidence for fatigue does not prove cognition; evidence for a proprietary extract does not automatically apply to a retail powder.
Grades
- A — higher-certainty human evidence: consistent, directly applicable results from multiple well-conducted randomized trials or a rigorous synthesis without major limitations.
- B — moderate human evidence: at least one sound controlled human study plus support, with limitations that could change the conclusion.
- C — early or mixed human evidence: small, inconsistent, indirect, or bias-prone human studies.
- D — preclinical or traditional basis only: cell, animal, mechanistic, or historical evidence without adequate direct human outcomes.
- E — insufficient direct evidence: no reliable answer for the exact species, form, population, and outcome.
What lowers certainty
We lower certainty for indirect species or forms, small samples, high dropout, weak comparators, unclear randomization, selective reporting, surrogate outcomes, imprecision, unresolved sponsor control, and missing contrary results.
Source order
- Current regulators and public-health authorities.
- Trial registries and rigorous systematic reviews.
- Direct peer-reviewed human trials.
- Preclinical work, clearly labeled nonhuman.
- Traditional-use records, clearly labeled historical context.
Display and updates
Pages show the studied form and dose, direct human results, important null or contrary evidence, safety limits, source dates, and next review date. Regulatory and safety sources receive frequent checks; core evidence maps receive periodic literature updates.
