Education only
MushroomHealthBenefits.com provides general education. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease and does not provide individualized medical advice. Do not start, stop, or change a medicine, supplement, cancer treatment, or other care plan because of this site.
When to ask before using a mushroom product
Talk with a clinician or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, preparing for surgery, taking prescription medicine, managing liver or kidney disease, living with an immune or bleeding condition, receiving cancer treatment, or caring for a child. The right question depends on the exact species, form, dose, and product.
Supplement regulation
FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before sale. Companies are responsible for lawful labeling and safety, and FDA oversight often occurs after marketing. Disease-treatment claims can cause a product to be regulated as a drug. FTC advertising rules separately require health claims to be truthful, not misleading, and adequately supported. A supplement disclaimer does not prove a claim.
Poisoning and emergencies
For a suspected wild-mushroom ingestion in the United States, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 without waiting for symptoms. If someone collapses, has a seizure, has trouble breathing, or cannot be awakened, call 911. Do not use this site to identify a wild mushroom as safe to eat.
